What's the difference between this type of marketing video, and a "Corporate Profile?"

This is a different type of video than the Corporate Profiles that focus on a company's business philosophy, their approach to customer service, or their company culture (click here to see an example of this type of corporate profile).  In the future, we plan to make that kind of corporate profile for Demo-Dek Tools, but the objective of this video was to showcase the capabilities of a specific product.

Use Video With High Production Values to Make Sure Your Product is Taken Seriously

I filmed interviews with Ben Weinreich, inventor of the Demo-Dek, talking about the specific ways that this new tool delivers better results than anything else on the market, and then cut that interview together with a demonstration of the product.

The demonstration was filmed with very high production value, because an amateurish YouTube video just isn't good enough anymore.  To truly convince potential customers that you're to be taken seriously, you have to make an infomercial that's professional and engaging.

It was especially crucial for a product like the Demo-Dek, which is brand new and being launched for the first time, that the presentation be credible, engaging, and comprehensive.  We show the product being demonstrated from every angle, from below and above the deck, from close-up and at a distance, and we show nearly every board being pulled.  This kind of video, centered on a specific product, can be a very important and effective part of an online marketing campaign.

Soon, we will make an infomercial demonstrating the Demo-Dek in a side-by-side comparison with other tools, to demonstrate this new product's superiority in speed and safety.  We've already filmed a demonstration of another product by the same company, and we're creating an e-commerce site to sell the Demo-Dek, which will be available for purchase later this Spring.

This weekend, we created a blog article for one of our Carroll County clients, Deep Run Farms...

On Friday, I took pictures of Greg Horner preparing his fields, and getting an early start on 2012.  My original intention was only to take still photographs to accompany an article for Deep Run Farms' website, but noticed that Greg's dog, Jules, was "helping out", and riding shotgun on the tractor.  I decided that this needed to be captured on video.  Unfortunately, I didn't have my Panasonic with me, but I did have my still camera, which had video capabilities.

The quality of the video shot by the Kodak Z1015 IS wasn't great, but I decided to use that to my advantage and create a look that reminded me of an 8mm home video camera.  I also color corrected using Adobe After Effects to create a grainy, overly warm, blown-out feel.

A "Home Movie" Aesthetic for Local Video Marketing

I felt that this home movie style worked well for Deep Run Farms, a family-owned farm who's running a Community-Supported Agriculture program.  People who participate in a CSA program like to feel personally involved with their local farm, and this video is all about making you feel personally connected to Greg, and the family dog, Jules.

This video gives you the feeling that you're watching clips from the Horner Family's home movies.  You feel very close to the people who are producing the food you eat, which is an essential and attractive feature of the whole CSA experience.  There are many family owned businesses that can benefit from this kind of aesthetic in their local video marketing.

Photography for this project happened on Friday, and the article was posted by the weekend.  We optimized the content for the term "Maryland CSA", targeting new enrollment for the Community-Supported Agriculture program based in Hampstead, Maryland.

As early as two days after the blog article was posted, it appeared on the first page of a Google search for "Maryland CSA."  That's very quick for an article to be indexed and rank on Page 1, and a big part of that has to do with the fact that video appears on that page. Build a Relationship with Potential Customers with Local Video Marketing

Whether you're using this kind of home movie aesthetic, or are creating a high definition corporate profile, web videos will help you build a relationship with potential customers as soon as they find your business listing on the internet.  People want to know who they're dealing with.  If people can visualize what it will be like to work with you, it makes it easier for them to trust you, and much more likely that they'll purchase from you.

Interviews are more time-consuming, and in some ways more difficult than having people read from a script, but we think the process makes for the best corporate videos...

We started production today on a web series for Culinary Services Group, filming interviews at their corporate headquarters in Westminster, Maryland.  The interview process is demanding, requiring more of a time commitment, both in the shooting and editing.  It takes exponentially more time to film an interview than to have a client read from a predetermined script, but we believe that this kind of interview yields a much more engaging voice-over narrative.

We would be willing to write a script, and do have access to professional voice-over artists.  For some projects, this kind of voice-over is appropriate, just like some projects call for only music.  However, many of the best corporate videos use a narrative created from the conversational tone you get in the course of an in-depth interview.  This is the best way for the executives in charge of a company to express their company philosophy, and talk about how they built their business.  Passion can really come through in this format, as you can see in the corporate profile we made for our Window Film Division.

Our Interview Process

When we want to form a voice-over narrative by interviewing our clients, we first sit down with them for a pre-interview.  We discuss the key messages they'd like to communicate to potential customers, and we define the demographics of the people they're targeting.  We recognize that our clients understand their industry far better than we do, so we use the pre-interview process to develop the best set of questions for the actual interview.

After we've sufficiently educated ourselves about our clients' industry and the key messages they're seeking to communicate, we come to their offices, shop, or headquarters, and conduct the interview.  We carefully light the interview, even though our goal will be to have as little "talking head" footage as possible.  As you can see in the Dulles Airport project above, we completely eliminated all talking head footage.

We engage our clients in an in-depth conversation in which we ask them what sets them apart from others in their industry?  What is their company philosophy?  What principles are most important to them?  We explore their experience in their industry, how their company was founded, and where they see their company going in the future.  We discuss the benefits and features of any product they wish to highlight.  And we are sure to discuss anything we know we want to depict on camera: products, new facilities, or technical capabilities.

We go in-depth, so the process can take a few hours, but it always yields a far more engaging result than having our clients read from a script.  Often, the interview format allows for more passion and sincerity than something that's been predetermined, and the client will go into unexpected territory in the course of the conversation.  The process is more involved, and takes longer in both shooting and editing, but we strongly believe the end result is worth the extra work.

This video was embedded onto Absolute Perfection's Automotive Window Tinting web pages and posted on Absolute Perfection's Facebook Fan Page. Our automotive tint video was designed to grab people's attention quickly, emphasizing the fact that having tinted windows on a great car is cool.

Tinted windows have lots of practical benefits (heat reduction, preventing sun damage, improving visibility), but in this video we emphasized the style that window tint adds to your vehicle.
